PROJECT PURPOSES:

Practitioners in Kosovo have developed effective and sustainable capacities for preventing and suppressing corruption, money laundering and terrorist financing; Kosovo authorities effectively implement asset recovery legislation;

BENEFICIARIES:

The final beneficiaries are the citizens of Kosovo, the users of the justice system. Target groups: Staff of MoJ, staff of KPC, staff of KJC, staff of KJA, judges, staff of courts, prosecutors, staff of prosecution; offices, State Prosecutor, Special Prosecution of the Republic of Kosovo (SPRK), Constitutional Court, Supreme Court, lawyers, Bar Association, notaries, Chamber of Notaries, mediators, Kosovo Institute of Public Administration, police, bailiffs, Ombudsperson, Office of the Prime Minister, Parliament, Ministry of European Integration, Ministry of Finances, Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Public Administration, academics, civil society organisations in the justice sector, and the media.

ACTIVITIES:

 Strengthening capacities and inter-institutional coordination in the justice sector in accordance with the Functional Review of the Rule of Law Sector and the Strategy that is being developed;  Strengthening the independence, impartiality, accountability, professionalism, quality, efficiency and transparency of the judiciary;  Further consolidation and alignment of the legal and institutional framework with European legislation,standards and practices and implementation of laws improved;  To improve access to justice, particularly for women and disadvantaged or marginalised groups.

RESULTS:

 Inter-institutional coordination mechanism in place;  Capacities in the justice sector strengthened in accordance with the Functional Review Process and the Justice Sector Strategy;  Structure and organisation of MoJ improved and departments strengthened;  Capacities of KPC, KJC, Courts and Prosecution Offices strengthened;  Capacities of the Justice Academy strengthened;  Infrastructure of judiciary improved  Legal and institutional framework further consolidated and in line with EU Acquis;  Monitoring and implementation of laws strengthened;  Access to justice for all citizens strengthened;  Strengthening the Legal Aid System.
