Service Learning (SL) in Kosovo

OVERALL OBJECTIVE:

To promote and protect child and adolescent rights by capacity-building of youth-serving individuals and institutions, through the institutionalisation of the Service Learning (SL) approach in Kosovo.

BENEFICIARIES:

70 teachers - who will be trained and mentored over a course of one year in order to be prepared to lead SL clubs and enhance their own teaching capacities. 20 Young Adult Mentors (18+), primarily students of degrees with a youth orientation (education, psychology, sociology) and/or SL club alumni who have grown into adulthood. 1,125 children/youth (primary and secondary school), who lack extra-curricular activities, will become part of SL clubs to develop their personal and social skills, as well design and led activities promoting child rights in their schools and communities.

SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES:

Specific objectives are: SO1. To create a sustainable systemic change of teaching methodology of teachers and young mentors; SO2. To support the development of 21st century six competencies of young people, which are core to the new MEST Curriculum Framework (communication, creative and critical thinking, learning, collaboration, self-management and civic awareness); SO3. To combine SL methodology with the formal school curriculum, and engage multi-level institutional stakeholders in improving the quality education in Kosovo;

RESULTS:

SO1. 70 new teachers and 20 new young adult mentors mentors trained in SL methodology. SO2. 1,000 downloads of the teacher SL toolkit; 45 new SL clubs operating in 15 municipalities; 1,125 new children and youth participating in SL program. SO3. MoU’s signed with relevant educational stakeholders - 2 with central institutions (MEST, MCYS), 10 with municipalities.
