Upgrading processing technology and increasing quality of fishery products

OVERALL OBJECTIVE:

The global objective of this grant scheme is to support improved access to and competitiveness on the national and international markets for Kosovo's agri-rural goods and services.

Target group: "NEWCO TROFTA" L.L.C.”, staff members, new employees’, construction companies, Final beneficiaries: supply chain, local consumption, hospital sector, local economy retailers, input dealers, improved environment etc.

PROJECT PURPOSES:

Intends to increase the processing capacity and quality of fresh fishery products through investment in modern processing technologies in line with EU Food safety standards. Development of a new energy – efficiency fishery processing plant and upgrade of existing fishery processing machinery in line with environment standards; implement hygiene and safety standards; and develop 5 new fishery products (smoked trout fillet, smoked trout, fish soup in the different tastes, vacuum fish and fish meatballs).

ACTIVITIES:

-Building of modern fish processing plant 500sqm with insulation panels (energy auditor in the end of construction will inspect construction and certify according to energy – efficiency EU requirements). The plant facilities will have processing facilities 250sqm, storage cold rooms 100sqm, packaging room 100sqm, doe laboratory 20m2, room for sterilisation 15sqm, administrative offices etc. The old fish processing plant will be shut down and will be remodelled that will be used for project as logistic base or fish processing plant and machinery maintenance; -Purchase of new processing line supply company will be in the charge for training worker and prepare a Guide for handling with this line; -Machine for new fish products with biodegradable packages; -Purchase of truck refrigerators; -Purchase of solar panels for lighting and water heating 21 KW; -Equipment for Wastewater treatment; -Setting up a new laboratory in a new fishery processing plant for examination; -Implementation of ISO 22000 (HACCP) – consultancy company will be engaged; -The development of the Marketing plan and NewCo Trofta Brand (consultancy company).

RESULTS:

-Increase fish production by 20% or 540,000 kg in the first year and rich another projected increase by 700,000 kg and quality of processed fishery products in line with EU food safety standards -Product ranges extended through the 5 new development products (smoked trout fillet, smoked trout, fish soup in the different tastes, vacuum fish and fish meatballs). -Environment protection is improved through investment in wastewater treatment, use of the renewable energy and biodegradable packaging for fishery products -Strengthening the linkages between fish farms and fish industry (vertical integration); -15 new jobs created out of them 10 women – training programme on processing industry, in finances, accounting ang company management -Recategorization of the fish processing unit by Kosovo Food and Veterinary (KFV), from the current C” category to A”
