PROJECT PURPOSES:

Construction/Rehabilitation of Landfills/Transfer Stations in Prishtina, Prizren, Gjilan, Ferizaj, Peja

ACTIVITIES:

Germany and the EU through KfW have committed up to 44 million EUR of grants to Kosovo for the construction, rehabilitation and closure of landfills in Prishtina, Prizren, Gjilan, Peja, Podujevo and transfer station Ferizaj by KLMC, with the objective to address the most urgent needs of the solid waste management sector. The situation is most critical in the Prishtina Region, where the current Mirash landfill near Obliq can collapse at any time.

RESULTS:

• A new sanitary landfill for municipal solid waste of the Pristina Region, complying with EU construction and operation standards. The investment includes the first disposal cell (approximately 6-7 years lifetime), all infrastructure facilities, gas collection and treatment, leachate collection and treatment, and mobile equipment for operation. • • Expansion of Gjilan, Prizren landfills, including temporary cover and construction of a new disposal cell with gas and leachate management as well as mobile equipment for operation. • Closure of Podujevo landfill, including temporary cover and gas collection, where applicable • Rehabilitation of Ferizaj transfer station and construction of a new transfer station for Podujevo area • Consultancy services for the implementation of the Project, including design, procurement and construction supervisions services • Consultancy services for the Accompanying Measures of the Project, to improve the performance of the Project Executing Agency, ensure the sustainability of operations and improve overall project coordination. • • Other infrastructure and services to improve solid waste management in
