OVERALL OBJECTIVE:

Supporting an economically, environmentally and financially sustainable irrigation sector through investment and technical assistance measures that will increase the efficiency of water utilisation and boost agricultural productivity.

PROJECT PURPOSES:

Implementation of the investments and technical assistance measures in Radoniqi-Dukagjini Irrigation scheme in order to increase the efficiency of water utilisation and boost agricultural productivity.

ACTIVITIES:

The activities to be financed by these funds are part of a broader water security and rural development programme under the management of the World Bank. The Master Plan for Irrigation prepared by Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Rural Development (MAFRD) sponsored by World Bank, includes an Investment Framework divided into short term, midterm and long term priorities. The selected scheme for financing by EU IPA 2020 funds (Radoniqi-Dukagjini scheme) was identified under this Master Plan/Investment Framework as short-term priority investment. The project contains 3 components: Component 1: Rehabilitation and Modernization of the Radoniqi-Dukagjini Irrigation Scheme. This component will cover the rehabilitation works to modernize and upgrade the Radoniqi-Dukagjini Irrigation Scheme. Component 2: Capacity Building to increase water use efficient and agriculture productivity. This component aims to improve the sustainability and efficiency of infrastructure investments supported under component 1 and increase the capacities of the MAFRD, Municipalities, irrigation providers and farmers. Component 3: Project Management, Coordination, Monitoring and Evaluation. This component will provide overall project management support, coordination, including procurement, financial management, monitoring and evaluation, and public awareness of project activities.

RESULTS:

- 10,000 ha provided with improved /new irrigation and drainage services - 7,000 water users provided with new/improved irrigation and drainage services (gender disaggregated).
