OVERALL OBJECTIVE:
PROJECT PURPOSE:
Extension of the Company's wastewater network and construction of a new WWTP in the Municipality of Podujeva to collect and treat wastewater in accordance with the relevant EU environmental standards. Significant reduction of raw wastewater volumes and its associated pollutant loads that are discharged straight into the river and local freshwater resources.
ACTIVITIES:
(i) Construction of a new state-of-the-art WWTP with a capacity capable of serving a population of approximately 50,000 people in Podujeva; (ii) expansion and improvements of the sewerage network; and (iii) construction of a small-scale WWTP based on NBS.
RESULTS:
the Project will help achieve: i) improvements of sanitation services for approximately 50,000 people in the Project service area; and ii) reduction in wastewater pollution loads flowing into the rivers by 800 tons/year in terms of biochemical oxygen demand, 1,400 tons/year in terms of chemical oxygen demand, and 900 tons/year in terms of total suspended solids, while total nitrogen and phosphorus will also be reduced by 100 and 18 tons/year, respectively, through treatment of roughly 3 million cubic meters annually, a significant component considering Kosovo’s annual freshwater use.
