COVERAGE/IMPACT:

Four river basins in Kosovo

OVERALL OBJECTIVE:

To support the efforts of the MESP to reduce and manage the risks posed by floods to human health, the environment, cultural heritage and economic activity four river basins.

PROJECT PURPOSES:

Development of Flood Hazard and Flood Risk Maps (FHRM), and Flood Risk Management Plans (FRMP) for four river basins in Kosovo.

ACTIVITIES:

- Scoping study on available data, databases, models etc. and on organization of data management; - Quality checks, agreements between the end users; - Development of the methodology for the Flood Hazard Maps and Flood Risk Maps by an Expert Group; - Development of a long-term concept for use and update of the assessment and update databases; - Set up two levels of stakeholder involvement: (a) transnational and (b) river basin and Stakeholder analysis. - Capacity building activities: training, workshops.

RESULTS:

• Flood risk and hazard maps for spatial and economic planning for sustainable development • Increased capacity of main beneficiaries through guidance and transfer of know-how on project development.
