OVERALL OBJECTIVE:
The overall objective of this Action is to contribute to an environmentally sound, health protecting and sustainable waste management, and to promote the implementation of the national waste management strategy, the alignment with EU-standards and climate protection.
PROJECT PURPOSES:
The specific objective of this Action is to improve infrastructure, facilities and equipment managed and operated by KLMC in Pristina, Prizren, Gjilan, Podujevo and Ferizaj through infrastructure investments in landfills, transfer stations and associated infrastructure according to EU-standards and to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
ACTIVITIES:
The activities shall comprise the following: 1. Construction of a new landfill for the Pristina Region, 2. Extension of the landfills in Gjilan and Prizren and closure of the existing disposal cells 3. Closure of the landfill of Podujevo and construction of a transfer station 4. Upgrade of transfer stations in Ferizaj 5. Consulting services for the implementation of investments
RESULTS:
(1) 100% coverage of Direct Operational Costs (2) 1.000.000 citizens benefitting from new environmentally friendly and properly managed waste disposal infrastructure. (3) 385.000 tons of waste treated, re-used or deposited in line with EU Landfill Directive (4) 321.000 greenhouse gas emissions reduced (in tons of CO2 equivalent p.a.) (5) Implementation of a transparent procedure for the calculation, review and approval of appropriate gate fees
